Scientists

Perhaps because Dan is a science teacher, both Anthony and Jimmy like to consider themselves "scientists."  We practice (some version of) chemistry when we mix up our "monster spray" in the kitchen.  They enjoy applying their knowledge of physics when they throw balls (or toys, or anything nearby) to see what damage the force of the objects can cause.

One important skill that all scientists must use is observation.  While they have proven successful at this during less opportune times (like noticing where I hide the Halloween candy), they also proved they can be observant during their scientific pursuits.

Yesterday was warm and sunny, and Anthony and Jimmy siezed the opportunity to go outside and observe nature.  They collected interesting leaves, and (unsuccessfully) tried to capture a few ants.  The dug around in the dirt, and gathered up sticks and twigs.

What made me smile the most, though, was that they recorded all of their observations in their notebooks.  Anthony traced a leaf easily enough, and Jimmy worked to draw the ants.  And both boys found a terrific way to combine their favorite activities... exploring the outdoors, and observing the details.
